AlpInvest boosts secondaries team

Private equity investment behemoth AlpInvest has recruited a trio of secondaries specialists to strengthen its teams in New York and Amsterdam.

AlpInvest Partners has hired Chris Perriello and Michael Hacker for its secondary investments team in New York. Earlier this year, Gunter Waldner joined the team in Amsterdam.

Perriello has joined as a principal from the primary fund investment team of Paul Capital Partners. Before, he worked for INVESCO Private Capital on primary fund investments, secondary transactions and direct investments. He began his career as an equity analyst at AMVESCAP.

Hacker has left UBS, where he was an associate director in the private equity secondary advisory group, to work as an investment manager at AlpInvest. Before UBS, Hacker worked in the leveraged finance group at CIBC World Markets and the fixed income department at JP Morgan.

Gunter Waldner joined as a principal. Previously, Waldner was an executive director in Lehman Brothers Europe’s investment banking division.

AlpInvest Partners is one of the largest private equity investors in the world with over €40 billion ($58 billion) of assets under management. Approximately 80 percent of these funds are invested by AlpInvest Partners in private equity funds globally, including secondary transactions.

The firm recently received a €2bn mandate for mezzanine investments in Europe and the US from pension funds PGGM and ABP, its main client and shareholders.
