All in a good cause

At a count taken last Christmas, Britain had 82,000 homeless children and many more adults. Very shocking. But the problem of homelessness is also very real – and potentially a reality for anyone.

According to a recent YouGov poll, one in three British workers is a mere one paycheck away from being homeless should they lose their job. A scary thought.

That’s why 12 of us here at PEI are taking our places at the starting line for the Royal Parks Foundation’s half-marathon in London on 6 October. We range from experienced marathon runners to complete beginners, but all of us have one goal – to raise as much money as we possibly can for Shelter ( the UK’s largest housing advice charity.

Shelter is doing sterling work in such areas as face-to-face consultations, government lobbying and driving legislative improvements. However, a cut in statutory funding has hit hard – and made Shelter more reliant on donations than in the past.

And that’s where you come in. Please visit our fundraising page at and help us reach our £10,000 target.

Support us on the day and you might get to see PEI’s Senior Editor of Infrastructure cross the finishing line – if you have the patience to wait long enough.
