Twelve of us set out with our eyes on the prize: to raise £10,000 (€11,813; $16,146) for Shelter, the UK housing and homelessness charity, by running London’s Royal Parks half-marathon. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our fundraising supporters, we ended up looking at more than £27,000 (at the time of writing).
As previously reported, we ended up benefitting from an out-of-the-blue offer from an anonymous donor to fork out an additional £10,000 should we reach the £15,000 mark. In the end – and actually, subsequent to having completed the half-marathon itself – we crossed this vital threshold.
Of course, getting over the finishing line was not just the aim of the fundraising but also the aim on a surprisingly warm October morning in Hyde Park. And that goal was achieved by all of us – some in a seemingly care-free manner that indicated extremely through preparation, others in a less relaxed state as various injuries took their toll. But, thank goodness, we all got there. And, a couple of weeks later, we have all (more or less) recovered.
Thank you to everyone who got behind us – we’ll never forget it.
