The new office will launch and manage the Asia Energy Transition Fund, focused on investments in Southeast Asian countries.
The transaction marks InfraCo Asia’s full exit from the Coc San plant in Vietnam, six years after its initial investment.
The proposed divestment package – an attempt to satisfy FIRB and ACCC regulatory requirements – is not seen as including APA’s best assets.
The Australian government will help fund the development of a new pipeline of infrastructure projects across southeast Asia to “attract sustainable public and private financing”.
While infra investors shouldn’t expect a repeat of the $5bn Equis Energy deal any time soon, they can look forward to a wealth of renewables opportunities. Each market poses its own challenges, though.
