US Federal Highway Administration names deputy administrator(4)

The US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the agency in charge of overseeing the country’s highway system, continued filling out its top brass by making another key management appointment.

Gregory Nadeau today joined the FHWA as deputy administrator, leaving behind his role as the deputy commissioner for policy, planning and communications at the Maine Department of Transportation. He held that post since 2002, FHWA said in a statement.

His appointment follows the recent hire of Karen Hedlund as the agency’s chief counsel. She was previously a partner in the infrastructure practice group at law firm Nossaman. Her first day at the FHWA was 15 June.

However, the agency’s top job – that of FHWA administrator – remains vacant, according to the FHWA website.

The appointments come at a particularly busy time for the FHWA. The agency is overseeing the spending of $27.5 billion in stimulus funding from the landmark $787 billion stimulus bill President Obama signed into law in February. And lawmakers have recently proposed adding an Office of Public Benefit within the agency to oversee public-private partnerships (PPPs) on the nation's highway system.
