Balfour Beatty Capital enters Canadian PPP

The UK builder’s infrastructure investment arm will open a new office in Toronto to focus on public-private partnerships in higher education, social infrastructure and renewable energy. The office will be led by Susanna Han, previously vice president of project finance at Carillion Canada.

Balfour Beatty Capital, the infrastructure investment arm of UK builder Balfour Beatty, is entering the Canadian market for public-private partnerships, the firm said in a statement.

Balfour Beatty Capital, which develops, sponsors and operates public infrastructure projects, will open an office in Toronto to focus on PPP projects in the country. The firm already had PPP teams across offices in the UK, US, Middle East, and Asia, according to its website.

The new office, Balfour Beatty Capital-Canada, will be led by Susanna Han. Han most recently served as vice president of project finance at Carillion Canada, a construction company and infrastructure developer also active in the PPP sector.

Balfour Beatty Capital will focus on PPPs within higher education, social infrastructure and renewable energy, according to the statement.

The expansion won’t be Balfour Beatty’s first step into Canada. The company is already active there through its Balfour Beatty Rail and Balfour Beatty Power divisions, which focus and rail and energy infrastructure, respectively.
