Crowell & Moring expands energy practice

The international law firm continues to expand its energy and project finance capabilities, hiring former Akin Gump partner Elliot Hinds.

Previously a partner and member of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld’s Global Project Finance group, Elliot Hinds has now joined Crowell & Moring as a partner in that firm’s Energy and Corporate groups, the Washington DC-based firm said in a statement.

Hinds brings nearly 20 years of experience to Crowell & Moring that includes project development and finance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and debt financing work in the energy space.

He has worked on projects to develop, finance, purchase and sell renewable energy, natural gas, cogeneration and coal-fired electric power, liquefied natural gas and bioethanol facilities, according to the statement. Hinds will be based in Crowell & Moring’s Los Angeles office.

“As we continue to grow our Energy practice, a key objective is to expand our finance and transactional bench, especially on the West Coast,” Larry Eisenstat, partner and chair of the firm’s energy group, said. “Elliot hits to both of these fields and perfectly complements our regulatory capabilities.”

The Washington DC-based firm has been growing its energy practice. In March 2014, it added the following three attorneys as partners in its California offices: former general counsel of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) Frank Lindh; former vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer for the California Independent System Operator Corporation (CAISO) Nancy Saracino; and former Akin Gump partner Baird Fogel.

These additions came less than a year after a nine-member energy team, led by Eisenstat, left Dickstein Shapiro to join Crowell & Moring in July 2013.
