New infra consultant for billion dollar Santa Barbara fund

Santa Barbara County Employees’ Retirement System has hired Meketa Investment Group, a consultant with extensive infrastructure investment knowhow. Meketa replaced Pension Consulting Alliance.

A $1.9 billion pension fund in Santa Barbara, California, has named Meketa Investment Group consultant.

The Santa Barbara County Employees’ Retirement System (SBCERS) announced Meketa replaced Pension Consulting Alliance, which began acting as consultant to the pension fund in 1991.

NEPC also received consideration, SBCERS said.

Meketa is heading up a manager search for the $100 million Lexington Contributory Retirement System in Lexington, Mass., which is planning to allocate between $3 million and $6 million to an infrastructure fund.

Meketa is also a consultant for CalPERS, the $220 billion California Public Employees’ Retirement System, which is planning to allocate $800 million to infrastructure.

In addition, Meketa is retained by the Arizona State Retirement System and San Jose Federated City Employees’ Retirement System.

Reached in San Diego, Meketa founder James Meketa confirmed the appointment. Eli Martinez, investment officer for SBCERS, did not return a voicemail message seeking comment.
