3i establishes VC advisory board

The board will help source entrepreneurs and start-ups as well as provide due diligence alongside 3i’s venture capital partners, headed by managing partner Jo Taylor.

3i, a global private equity firm, has set up its first venture capital advisory board to support 3i-backed information technology and healthcare companies.
The advisory board, composed of an “elite group of individuals” according to Jo Taylor, 3i venture capital managing partner, will offer strategic insight in their specific fields of interest, as well as help in the sourcing of entrepreneurs and start-ups and due diligence.
The board’s first meeting will take place over two days this month, as well as taking part in sponsored events.
Board members include Eric Benhamou, chairman of 3Com, Palm and Cypress Semiconductor; and David Nagel, former president and chief executive of PalmSource and president of AT&T Labs, SVP, Apple Computer, as well as former member of President Clinton’s advisory committee on information technology.
Also on the board are Ron Dollens, retired president and chief executive of Guidant; Hossein Eslambolchi, former chief technology officer of AT&T and an advisor to Silicon Valley companies; Sachio Semmoto, founder of eAccess, eMobile and co-founder of DDI; Yossi Vardi, founding investor in instant messaging technology ICQ and advisor to Israeli high tech companies; and Martin Haemmig, a lecturer on venture capital.
3i also announced this week a $20 million (€25 million) investment in the $60 million series C financing round of Icera, a UK wireless semiconductor company, and €32 million in Empruntis, a French online broker of financial products, including mortgages, loans and insurance.
