Unlisted infrastructure fundraising in 2014 slightly outperformed it in 2013 by 4 percent. 53 funds reached final closes raising a total of $48.3 billion in 2014, while in 2013, 61 funds were closed bringing $46.4 billion. Mid-sized funds ($501-2,000 million) contributed half of the total capital raised in 2013. Nevertheless, large-sized funds (over 2 billion) made up about half of the total capital raised in 2014. The amount raised by large-sized funds has almost doubled every year since 2011.
Six out of the top ten biggest funds closed in 2014 are large-sized funds. They are the $12.6 billion Global Strategic Investment Alliance (GSIA), the $5 billion Energy Capital Partners III, the $3 billion Macquarie Infrastructure Partners III, the $2.6 billion Antin Infrastructure Fund II, the $2.5 billion First Reserve Energy Infrastructure Fund II and LS Power Equity Partners III which is slightly more than $2 billion. The seventh largest fund closed is the $2 billion KKR Energy Income & Growth Fund.
