Cinven boosts team

The European buyout firm has made five internal promotions to secure talent in a more challenging environment for buying and selling businesses.

Cinven, a European private equity firm, has promoted three principals to partner bringing the total to 21.

Caspar Berendsen has been made a partner. He joined Cinven from JP Morgan in London as a member of the business and financial services sector team in 2003. He has worked on a number of transactions including Maxeda, Truvo and Dutch Cable. advising Dutch and Belgian clients in a variety of sectors.

Matthew Sabben-Clare has also become a partner after joining Cinven in 2005 from Merrill Lynch where he worked for five years in the leveraged finance team.

Since joining the firm he has been involved in Gala Coral Group, Dutch Cable, Ahlsell, Avio and USP Hospitales and now heads up Cinven’s specialist debt team.

The last of the trio of new partner is Xavier Geismar, who joined Cinven in 2001 and has worked on a number of transactions including Amadeus, Numéricable and Camaieu. He is a member of the retail, leisure and consumer sector team. He was previously a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group in Paris.

Additionally Alexis le Marié and Christoph Hobo were promoted to principal. Le Marié joined Cinven in 2005 from Clayton, Dubilier & Rice in London. Hobo came to Cinven from UBS in 2004 and is a member of the healthcare sector team.
