Clifford Chance is bolstering its projects and infrastructure practices in Latin America with the appointment of Gianluca Bacchiocchi, formerly a partner at DLA Piper’s Chicago office, the London-based law firm said in a statement.
Bacchiocchi, one of the most respected legal advisers for project finance matters in Latin America according to the statement, will be a partner in the law firm’s banking and finance practice in the Americas. He will be based in New York but will focus on the Latin American market where he will be spending a significant amount of time.
“In addition to having been involved in many of the landmark transactions in the region, including the recent development and financing of the $5.4 billion Metro Linea 2 in Peru, Gianluca has also been at the forefront of the growing trends towards financing energy and infrastructure projects through the capital markets in Spanish Latin America,” said Americas Banking and Finance Practice area leader Tom Schulte.
Bacchiocchi focuses his practice on representing sponsors, issuers and underwriters in cross-border capital markets transactions with Latin America, including project bond financings, public and private issuances of asset-backed securities, private issuances of future-flow backed securities and high-yield debt issuances.
He also assists sponsors, borrowers and lenders with project and infrastructure financings, public-private partnership transactions, general secured and unsecured lending arrangements and international debt restructurings, according to the statement.
The law firm has been expanding its Americas-based teams recently. Bacchiocchi is the third partner to join the firm following the recruitment of structured finance partners Bob Gross and Will Cejudo, who joined Clifford Chance from Bingham McCutchen in December.
