Freshfields head to join ArcLight

Ted Burke will act as COO for the $10bn energy infrastructure fund.

US fund manager ArcLight Capital Partners will install Ted Burke, the current global managing partner of ‘Magic Circle’ law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, as its chief operating officer (COO) and general counsel.

Burke will join ArcLight, a $10 billion private equity firm and energy infrastructure investor, in the first quarter (Q1) of 2014. Burke was set to depart London-headquartered Freshfields in 2015 to return to his native US. ArcLight is based in Boston.

Appointed to head Freshfields in 2005, Burke is retiring with the distinction of being its longest-serving managing partner. Antitrust, competition and trade (ACT) attorney David Aitman has been slated to take over as global managing partner.

A year ago, Freshfields lost US energy and infrastructure head Kent Rowey and infrastructure partner Dolly Mirchandani to law firm Allen & Overy.
