Data from Infrastructure Investor’s Research & Analytics shows that in Q1 2014, energy was the most popular sector in term of number of funds in market, accounting for 61% of all funds in market. Renewables and Transport were the second and third preferred sectors, with 40% and 27% of the funds listing it as a focus for investment.
Some of the large Energy focused funds that are currently fundraising include Alinda Global Core Infrastructure Fund and First Reserve Energy Infrastructure Fund II, which are targeting $3 billion and 2.5 billion respectively. The largest renewables focused fund in market are Climate Public Private Partnership (CP3) targeting $3 billion, followed by Terra Firma Infrastructure Fund for Global Renewable Energy, which is looking to raise $2.75 billion.Â
