Grotech hires new partner

Former Intersouth general partner Don Rainey has joined Maryland venture firm Grotech Partners.

East Coast venture firm Grotech Capital Group has hired Don Rainey as a partner. Rainey was previously at Intersouth Partners, where he focussed on information technology investments.

Before joining Intersouth, a venture firm that makes investments in the southeastern US, Rainey held senior executive and board positions at software company DaVinvi Systems, internet entertainment network Attitude Network, infrastructure software company Novell and IBM.

Rainey also has public sector experience: he worked on the DeVenCI Program, where he advised the chief information officer of the US Department of Defense on emerging technologies, and served on the Enterprise Investment Advisory Committee for the State of Maryland as well as the Investment Advisory Board of the State of Virginia’s Growth Acceleration Program.

Grotech manages $1 billion (€732 million) in committed capital. Its most recent investment was a $4 million Series C commitment to Colorado-based hardware and software developer SkyeTek in July.
