Real estate man is new VP of Balfour Beatty unit

A veteran real estate executive has joined Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions to help expand its business in the US. His hiring is fresh off a recent Balfour PPP that privatised student housing at a Florida college.

A Balfour Beatty unit specialising in using public-private partnerships (PPP) to build college campus infrastructure has hired a real estate veteran as its vice president.

The company yesterday said its Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions subsidiary appointed development professional Josh Smith to help grow its business in North America.

Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions is operated under Belfour Beatty Capital Group (BBCG), the US arm of London-headquartered global infrastructure business Balfour Beatty. Launched in March 2010, Campus Solutions is focused on providing PPP financing as well as construction and management for on-campus real estate, including student housing, administrative and academic property and parking. The division is led by Robert Shepko.

In September, Campus Solutions completed a $123 million project for student housing at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.

Prior to joining Balfour Beatty, Smith served as vice president of development for Collegiate Cos., a Texas real estate company focused on privatising student housing. Smith has also worked for Jackson Development as director of development and leasing, concentrating on Texas and Oklahoma.

In a statement, Smith said the global reach of the Balfour Beatty brand is a competitive advantage in the higher education sector.
