Thailand’s Modern Energy boosts project finance team

The project manager has hired two in senior roles as it seeks to gain a greater foothold in the wind energy market.

Modern Energy Management, a Bangkok-based renewables project manager, has added two recruits to its project finance team in a bid to expand its capacity to oversee wind energy projects.

Appointed as head of finance, Jack Kneeland was previously a managing director in the gas, power and green energy team at AWR Lloyd, a Bangkok-based advisory firm with a focus on the energy and mining sectors in the Asia-Pacific region. Kneeland also serves as a partner at Clean Energy Advisors, an Orlando-headquartered firm which seeks renewables investment opportunities.

Tina Ngimhoung joins the firm as financial controller. She comes from Access Energy, where she was a management consultant. Prior to that, she spent five years as a senior financial advisory manager at KPMG Thailand.

As part of the payment package it receives from clients, Modern Energy often gets a minority stake in the projects it works on. In a statement, the firm argued the compensation mechanism allows for greater risk sharing, since a portion of the payment depends on whether the project goes through.

It also said it is currently managing a number of renewable energy projects in Southeast and Central Asia, Latin America and Africa. It is also providing asset management, human resources and technical advisory services to a buyout fund managed by CapAsia on two operating wind farms in Pakistan.
