Accel’s Breyer to head NVCA

The US trade organisation for venture capital firms has selected a chairman for the coming year – James Breyer of Silicon Valley venture firm Accel Partners.

The National Venture Capital Association, the trade organisation for US venture capital firms, has selected James Breyer, a managing director at Accel Partners, to serve as chairman of the association for the coming year.

Breyer replaces Warburg Pincus’ Jeffrey Harris.

The unanimous election of Breyer took place at the NVCA’s annual meeting in San Francisco.

Accel has offices in Palo Alto, California and London.

NVCA chairmen serve one-year terms.

In a statement, Breyer said he would focus on ‘preserving the use of employee stock options for emerging growth companies,’ among other agenda items.

The NVCA also announced eight new directors who will serve four-year terms: Peter Barris of New Enterprise Associates; Michael Cronin of Weston Presidio; Joanna Rees Gallanter of Venture Strategy Partners; Robert Ketterson of Fidelity Ventures; Mark Klopp of Eastman Chemical; Gilman Louie of In-Q-Tel; Ted Schlein of Kleiner Perkins Caufield Beyers; and Chad Waite of OVP Venture Partners.
