BlueRun Ventures, a Menlo Park-based venture capital firm, has added two investment directors, William Qu and Mike Ding, to its China team. The duo, each with more than ten years of experience, will focus on new media, wireless and consumer services investments in China, according to a statement.
Based in Beijing, Qu has worked with start-ups, in business development and investment banking. Before joining BlueRun, he was director of investment at Capinfo, a Hong Kong-listed IT services company, where he was responsible for venture investments and investor relations. He co-founded Beijing Jiajing Weiye Technologies and the China TMT association, a non-profit organisation that provides a communication platform for entrepreneurs and investors.
Shanghai-based Ding worked for Nokia’s emerging business unit as a director for business development and strategic investments. He also headed the company’s China operations of Widsets, a popular Nokia mobile internet service. Before Nokia, Ding was a vice-president of iDTech Ventures. His venture career began at Intel Capital.
BlueRun Ventures has been active in China since 2001 and is not the only firm beefing up its China operations. General Atlantic, an established growth capital provider, has recruited Jeff Leng in September as a managing director. Leng joined General Atlantic from Warburg Pincus where he had been working since 1999.
BlueRun has offices in Helsinki, Herzelia (Israel), Mumbai, Seoul and Shanghai.
