Nossaman partner heads to US Department of Transportation(3)

Karen Hedlund will serve as chief counsel of the Federal Highway Administration, a key agency within the US Department of Transportation. At Nossaman, she specialised in the structuring of PPPs and helped numerious states develop legislation to facilitate private investment in infrastructure.

Karen Hedlund, a partner in the infrastructure practice group at law firm Nossaman, is leaving to join the US Department of Transportation, the firm announced today.

At the Department of Transportation, Hedlund will serve as the chief counsel of the Federal Highway Administration. She officially joined the department in that position on 15 June.

At Nossaman, she specialised in the structuring of public-private partnerships (PPPs) and concession agreements for highways and transit systems. She also advised numerous states on developing legislation to enable PPPs, according to a recent biography published by Nossaman.

Other notable individuals who have served in that role include Macquarie Capital managing director DJ Gribbin. Gribbin served as the chief counsel to the Federal Highway Administration from 2003 to 2005 and later became the chief counsel for the Department of Transportation.
