Skanska, the Stockholm-based contractor, is a 70 percent stakeholder in a CZK 4 billion ($216 million) contract to upgrade a railway in the Czech Republic. The Czech Rail Administration has selected the Skanska-led consortium to build out the 21 kilometre railway connecting Prague and Plzen.
Two Czech construction companies are involved in the project alongside Skanska.
Financial support comes from the European Union and an infrastructure fund sponsored by the Czech government, according to Skanska.Â
The project entails the construction of four new bridges. 24 existing bridges, three stations and three platforms will be renovated. Work will also be carried out to improve installations and noise protection facilities.
The Czech Republic is currently investing in several transportation projects. In December 2007 the country received a CZK 14 billion (€530 million) loan from the European Investment Bank to finance priority transport projects covered by the Operational Programme for Transport of the Czech National Strategic Reference Framework between 2007 and 2013.
