Warburg Pincus brings in energy specialist

The global private equity firm has appointed Simon Eyers, a founding partner of 4D Global Energy Advisors, as managing director in London.

Warburg Pincus has appointed Simon Eyers as managing director in the firm’s London office to focus on energy investments in Europe and emerging markets.

Eyers joins from 4D Global Energy Advisors, a private equity firm specialising in the energy sector of which he is a founding partner.

Prior to 4D, Eyers worked in energy investment banking at SG Warburg, Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse First Boston Europe. He is also a director of Fairfield Energy, Warburg’s North Sea oil and gas portfolio company.

Eyers’ appointment follows that of Somit Varma, who joined the firm’s New York office as a managing director focused on energy investments in January.

Warburg Pincus has to date invested more than $6 billion in the energy sector, according to a spokesperson for the firm. The firm has been the lead investor in energy companies including Canadian explorer Canbriam Energy and West Africa-focused oil exploration and production company Kosmos Energy, which listed on the New York stock exchange last year.

“As the demand for energy continues to increase and new services and technologies are introduced, we believe that private equity has a valuable role to play in building durable energy businesses of scale,” said Joseph Schull, head of Europe at Warburg Pincus.
