Veteran project finance specialist Stephen Davis has joined the Houston-based energy practice of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, the law firm announced Tuesday.
Davis made a name for himself with Vinson & Elkins, helping to found its Asia office and serving as a partner. He has project finance experience in North America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, as well as an extensive background in midstream energy.
The addition of Davis signified a “continuing commitment” to the Akin Gump energy practice, said Akin Gump chairman Bruce McLean, who has termed energy and power a “strategic priority” for the firm.
The law firm in 2010 began to staff up its energy-related business, hiring Robert Nelson, Dino Barajas and Elliot Hinds. In 2011, Akin Gump hired a 14-person energy team from Chadbourne & Parke, including Adam Umanoff and Edward Zaelke, who co-headed renewable energy for the firm, as well as BP Solar general counsel Baird Fogel and David Burton from GE Energy Financial.
In January, Wall Street lawyer Jacob Worenklein joined the Akin Gump energy practice.
