Balfour Beatty again leads on US military housing deal

Autumn has seen the PPP developer flush with deal activity as it is again named preferred bidder on a $73m project to provide military housing.

November has again brought new business to Balfour Beatty, with the developer cementing a US Air Force agreement to provide on-base housing for military personnel in Georgia and Texas.

Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions' proposal was named highest ranked offer for a $73 million, 50-year concession. The housing deal, called the ACC Group III Housing Privatisation Project, will take place at Texas-based Dyess Air Force Base (AFB) and Moody AFB, near Georgia.

The project is being developed by Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, which in turn is operated under Balfour Beatty Capital Group – a business specific Balfour Beatty unit charged with partnering with the US federal government and the US Department of Defence.

November has proven a profitable month for the campus unit, which also won the North Group Housing Privatisation Project, a $470 million, 50-year concession to privatise USAF military housing from North Dakota to Idaho.

The US Department of Defence in 1996 introduced its Military Housing Privatisation Initiative, which allowed the US military to partner with the private sector to provide housing.
