Infrastructure Investor Research and Analytics division currently tracks 15 unlisted infrastructure debt funds that are in fundraising mode. They have a total combined target size of $18.7 billion. Of the 15 funds, five will focus on India, representing $8.03 billion – 43% of total target size.

The recent election victory for Narendra Modi and his Bharatuya Janata Party has yet to be formally announced, but there are already high expectations of him to deliver similar success he has enjoyed in his home state of Gujarat, and to help India back on track towards double digit growth. It will be interesting to monitor the priority the new government will give to new infrastructure projects and the opportunities that will arise for debt – and equity – funds.
