Simpson Thacher recruits Glover

The global head of Clifford Chance’s private funds group, Jason Glover, will establish a UK practice for Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.

Jason Glover has ended a 12-year career at Clifford Chance in order to bolster the international private funds practice at rival law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. A statement from Simpson Thacher did not disclose his start date.

Glover could not immediately be reached for comment.

Since joining Clifford Chance in 1998 he has helped build up its private funds group significantly. Prior to Clifford Chance, Glover spent three years as an operations director for the Asian Infrastructure Fund. He also worked as chief operating officer for Hambro European Ventures (now Duke Street Capital).

Tom Bell, the head of Simpson Thacher’s private funds practice, said in a statement the law firm was fortunate to have recruited Glover. “His addition will give us an unmatched US/UK law ability to advise clients in this important and expanding practice area.”

Glover's resignation marks the second high-profile partner to leave Clifford Chance for Simpson Thacher, according to legal industry publication The Lawyer. Adam Signy, an M&A-focused partner often involved in private equity deals, last year ended a 22-year career with Clifford Chance to join Simpson Thacher's London office.

A Clifford Chance spokesman said Edward Gander would now lead its global private funds group. Gander first joined Clifford Chance in 1995, later left to become managing partner of private equity firm ViaNova Capital, and then rejoined the law firm in 2006.
