Advisory firm sets up specialist funds unit

Deloitte’s specialist funds advisory team, based in the UK, will be led by 40 partners with a staff of 500. It will cover a range of fund sectors including infrastructure, private equity and real estate funds.

Business advisory firm Deloitte has just launched a specialist funds advisory team in the UK.

The team will be led by 40 partners with a staff of 500, and has been established in response to the increasingly challenging economic climate facing the fund management industry, the firm said in a statement.

Among the asset classes encompassed by the team are infrastructure funds, led by partner Jason Clatworthy, private equity funds, headed by David Quantrill, and real estate funds, fronted by David Brown. Deloitte said the advisory service will look to address alternative funds’ issues in their business models, governance, cost base, capital structures, remuneration models, risk management and compliance processes.

Deloitte’s head of investment management Eliza Dungworth said that as the complexity of fund structures and the variety of the key stakeholders involved has increased, this has led to a growing demand for specialist support in the sector.

In setting up the team, Deloitte has hired fund specialists Matt Tombs from Merrill Lynch Investment Management, Paul Megson from KPMG, Justin Nuccio from Deloitte US, Ali Kazimi from Ernst & Young, Nick Robinson from law firm Walkers and Andy Martyn from HM Revenue and Customs.
