Laing O’Rourke lands HK airport specialist

Douglas Oakervee is to lead the firm’s business development in Hong Kong and the surrounding regions. The former Crossrail chairman will join Laing O’Rourke in September.

UK-based construction group Laing O’Rourke has appointed Douglas Oakervee, the former chairman of the UK’s Crossrail project, to its senior management team.

Oakervee is to take charge of the company’s business development in Hong Kong and the surrounding regions.

In addition to working on the Crossrail project, the planned new railway link under central London, Oakervee was involved in the development of Hong Kong’s offshore international airport and has led the Greater London Authority’s feasibility study into a new airport in the Thames estuary. He is expected to join the firm at the beginning of September.

Laing O’Rourke covers a range of construction areas, including social and transport infrastructure. It has operations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australasia.
