Former Highstar exec joins ACEI

Robert Wholey has joined American Capital Energy & Infrastructure as managing director of investments for North America.

American Capital Energy & Infrastructure (ACEI), an affiliate of private equity firm American Capital, has appointed Robert “Bo” Wholey as managing director, responsible for sourcing, underwriting and managing energy and infrastructure investments in North America, the Maryland firm said in a statement on Tuesday.

Wholey joins ACEI from fund manager Highstar Capital, where he most recently served as managing director, leading and managing investments in the midstream energy sector.

“Bo brings substantial experience, particularly in the midstream sector, and has a proven track record of identifying niche opportunities and originating and managing successful investments within the energy sector,” ACEI chief executive Paul Hanrahan said.

“His deep knowledge of the midstream investment space and industry relationships will be valuable to the future growth and expansion of ACEI,” he added.

Before spending nine years at Highstar Capital, Wholey had worked in the Global Energy Group at UBS where he was involved in capital markets and mergers and acquisitions in the midstream and pipeline infrastructure, exploration and production, and oilfield services sectors.

Headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland, ACEI invests in energy infrastructure assets in high-growth and developed markets, including power generation facilities, gas and power distribution and transmission networks, energy transportation assets, fuel production opportunities, and product and service companies focused on the power and energy sector. It is part of American Capital’s asset management affiliate, American Capital Asset Management.

American Capital is a publicly-traded private equity firm and global asset manager. It originates, underwrites, and manages investments in middle-market private equity, leveraged finance, real estate, energy and infrastructure, and structured products.
