The firm’s GASTA Roads consortium, which also includes Macquarie Capital Group, has been invited to participate in the bidding for the N17/N18 motorway linking the Irish towns of Gort and Tuam in western Ireland. The contract for the project is expected to be awarded by Q3 2010.

Global Via, the 50-50 joint venture of Caja Madrid and Spanish construction group FCC, has been shortlisted as one of the candidates for a public-private partnership (PPP) development of a 57-kilometer motorway in western Ireland, the firm said in a statement.

Irish roads:
under construction

The N17/N18 motorway will link the Irish towns of Gort and Tuam in western Galway county. It will replace the existing N17 and N18 roads and provide bypasses for several towns along the way, according to the statement.

Global Via’s consortium for the project, GASTA Roads, also includes Macquarie Capital Group, Irish construction and property development firm P. Elliot and Irish civil engineering firm Wills Bros.

Ireland’s National Roads Authority, the administrator of the country’s PPP roads programme, expects to receive final bids for the project in the second quarter of next year and reach contract close in the third quarter of 2010, according to a timetable for the project published in February.
