OTPP expands infrastructure team(3)

The C$87.4bn Canadian pension has hired Eric Hargrave as a senior investment associate in its infrastructure group. The pension has been an investor in infrastructure since 2001 and currently manages a C$10bn portfolio devoted to the asset class.

The Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, a Canadian pension with a C$10 billion (€6 billion; $9 billion) infrastructure and timber portfolio, has added a member to its direct infrastructure investment team.

Eric Hargrave has joined the C$87.4 billion pension as a senior investment associate in its infrastructure group. He was previously a senior associate in the investment banking utilities and renewables group of RBC Capital Markets in London.

The pension began investing in infrastructure in 2001 and has generally acted as a direct investor, taking stakes in assets such as power generator InterGen (2005), UK water utility Northumbrian Water Group (2005) and marine container terminals Vanterm and Deltaport in Vancouver (2007).

The pension also invests indirectly in infrastructure via holdings in the Macquarie Airports Group, an airport investor, and the Macquarie Infrastructure Group, a toll road investor.

Details of Hargrave’s hire were first reported on the blog of Canadian executive search firm Vlaad & Company.
