The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) of Paraguay has launched a tender for a public-private partnership (PPP; P3) to modernise Silvio Pettirossi of Asuncion International Airport (ASIP).
The government is seeking a private partner to further develop the capital city airport's commercial core while working to streamline passenger processing procedures in anticipation of continued growth through a 30-year operations period that will follow two years of construction. The project will require initial investment of roughly $108.4 million along with an additional $40.3 million of lifetime cash infusions, according to MOPC estimates.
The impetus for the project comes from MOPC data showing that the airport experienced 125 percent growth during the period from 2004 to 2012, with the agency asserting that continued growth is expected.
Public works minister Ramon Jimenez Gaona said at the time of the announcement that the plan to revitalise the country's gateway airport is part of a broader effort for Paraguay to position itself as a modern nation on global standards.
Deadline for consultations with the MOPC is March 8, and bids will be opened on April 21. Contract award is scheduled for November and work is expected to begin sometime next year.
