Let them eat cake (and then it’s back to training)

Team PEI did what any group of finely-tuned, supremely fit athletes would do in the build-up to a half-marathon: we ate cake.

It was all in a good cause, though. As related in last month’s issue, we are aiming to raise £10,000 for Shelter, the UK housing charity, by running the Royal Parks half-marathon in London on October 6.

Digging deep for tasty treats baked by eager colleagues made a welcome contribution to the fundraising – which stood at a magnificent total of about £8,600 at the time of going to press.

The other bit of really good news is that an anonymous donor has agreed to match every pound we raise above our target until £15,000 is reached. Even better: If we get to £15,000, our generous benefactor will commit a further £5,000 – adding up to £25,000 altogether.

If you haven’t already done so (and, if you have, many thanks), you can support our effort at: http://www.justgiving.com/PEIMedia.
