Sinyor to oversee portfolio assets at Actis

Joe Sinyor, an operational expert who has held senior roles at private equity firm Terra Firma and media group Trinity Mirror, is to head Actis’ Value Creation Group, where he will oversee the performance of the firm’s infrastructure and private equity portfolio companies.

Actis, the emerging markets private equity and infrastructure investor, has appointed Joe Sinyor as a London-based partner and head of its Value Creation Group. A statement from Actis said Sinyor will “work closely with portfolio companies to add value by driving operational and strategic improvements”.

Sinyor joined private equity firm Terra Firma in 2003, before becoming operational managing director at Strategic Value Partners, a US alternative investment fund focused primarily on distressed debt and distressed businesses in Europe.

Previously he was chief executive of the newspapers division at UK media group Trinity Mirror, and also had senior roles at Sony, Dillons Bookstores, Pepe Group and McKinsey.

Actis’ most recent infrastructure deal came in May when it completed the $345 million acquisition of two electricity supply and transport businesses in Guatemala. The investment came from Actis’ second infrastructure fund, which closed on just over $750 million towards the end of 2009. The fund is around two-thirds committed.
